The unique, aromatic flavor of this rare peppercorn is a testimony to its growing popularity around the world. A close relative to the traditional black peppercorn, though slightly more delicate and nuanced in taste, the berries are called Voatsiperifery, which comes from voa, the Malagasy word for fruit, and tsiperifery, the local name of the plant. 

The Voatsiperifery grows wild on tall vines throughout the humid forests of Madagascar and is picked between the months of June-September.

Red Madagascar Peppercorn differs from the black peppercorns in that they are the unoxidized ripened berries. This gives the peppercorn a fruiter, more citrusy flavor that compliments fish, salads, and chicken.
