Region: Southern France (Espelette, Pyrénées-Atlantiques) 

The Espelette pepper is grown in the Basque region of Northern France under strict guidelines, which has earn it the status of Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) or appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC) in France. 

The Espelette pepper was originally brought back from South America in the 16th century and has been a staple in Basque cuisine and culture. The Espelette pepper produces a slightly tangy tomato aroma, with mild heat and a gentle sweetness which goes great on bread, omelettes, salads, and most dishes that require a bit of tangy warm heat.🌶️
