Also known as Himalayan Black Salt, Kala Namak is a rock salt that is very popular in the cuisines of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Nepal. Naturally occurring minerals give this salt its unique color and flavor.

Kala Namak owes its color to iron oxide, resulting in a range from red and browns to light pink. High levels of sulfur give it a rich and intense savory flavor, reminiscent of hard-boiled eggs, making it great for chutneys, salads, and other regional dishes. It is also a wonderful addition to vegetarian and vegan dishes, such as scrambled tofu and potato salad.
