Milk thistle is a member of the sunflower family. Much recent research has been done on Milk Thistle (though the seeds have been used for thousands of years to treat many conditions), with many positive conclusions, including liver-protective and regenerative properties from active flavanoid-lignan (flavanolignan) group of constituents, called silymarin, contained only in the seed shell. Milk Thistle also contains general antioxidant properties. Milk Thistle seeds can be ground and used as tea or sprinkled whole on various foods.
